round crash as Stephen Hendry bags 147 maximum
After Hendry racked up a 147 maximum, title hollister clothing holder Higgins was staring down the barrel of a gun when he trailed Chinese qualifier Liang Wenbo 52 44 in the deciding frame of their first round clash.
But a missed double by Wenbo opened the door for the Wishaw star who cleared up to win 10 9 and keep alive his hopes of a fifth Crucible crown.
Higgins said: “I’m just drained I thought the writing was on the wall.
“But I didn’t deserve to win. I feared Liang was going to clear up to win but luckily for me he missed in the decider.
“The wheels just came off but I’m through now and I could play Stephen hollister clothing , which would be brilliant.
“I had a feeling I might draw him. We’ve never played each other atSheffield so I can’t wait.”
Seven time champ Hendry rattled in his 147 as he racked up an 8 1 lead over Stuart Bingham.
The Scot potted 15 reds, 15 blacks and all the colours to light up day one of the 1.1million tournament.
Hendry will pocket a 50,000 bonus for his maximum if it is not bettered over the next 16 days.
It was his third Crucible maximum and saw him equal triple world champ Ronnie O’Sullivan’s three 147s at snooker’s main showpiece.
He said: “I have a match still towin but the 147 was one of my best position wise and it was fantastic to make a third maximum here.”
Hendry only flew back to the UK on Friday after a promotional tour of China and he ripped in hollister clothing to Welsh ace Mark Williams for calling the Crucible a hole.
He added: “I felt really good and as for the jet lag well, sleep is for wimps. It’s the new way, fly in to Sheffield the day before with no practice.
“I don’t care what Williams says about the Crucible there is no better feeling than to make it here.”
Ulsterman Mark Allen fought back from 3 0 and 4 1 down to finish just one behind Chinese qualifier Cao Yupeng at 5 4 in their first round clash.
Crucible rookie Yupeng sank breaks of 70, 69, 86 and 51 to dominate but former semi finalist Allen rallied with runs of 45, 42, 40 and 88 to keep alive his hopes of progressing to the last 16.
